I. Introduction

This week turns students into performer-readers. Through short, high-interest poems and brief scripts, children practice accurate decoding, steady rate, and expressive phrasing so meaning shines. They’ll rehearse for an audience, use context to fix miscues, and add a simple visual that supports their performance message.


II. Objectives and Standards

  1. Read on-level texts (poems/brief scripts) with purpose and understanding, demonstrating accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression (RF.2.4a–b).
  2. Use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding while reading aloud (RF.2.4c).
  3. Give a short oral presentation/reading that is clear and coherent for the audience (SL.2.4) and include a visual that clarifies ideas/feelings (SL.2.5).
