Unit Plan 20 (Grade 2 PE): Fitness Circuit 2.0
Keep Grade 2 students moving with engaging fitness stations that build endurance, reinforce healthy habits, and promote active participation through fun, structured routines.
Focus: Build endurance and reinforce simple healthy activity habits through active rotating fitness stations, repeated movement, and discussion about how students can stay active every day.
Grade Level: 2
Subject Area: Physical Education (Fitness Concepts • Active Participation • Healthy Habits)
Total Unit Duration: 1 core session + 2 optional sessions (1–3 weeks), 50–60 minutes per session
I. Introduction
Students continue building fitness understanding by participating in a more developed station-based circuit that keeps them moving for much of class. This unit uses a dynamic warm-up with music and a series of Rotating Fitness Stations such as jump rope lines, step-ups, agility ladder patterns, and simple core work to help students practice endurance, movement control, and effort. Students also talk about what it means to build healthy habits, including moving regularly, stretching before activity, playing outside, and choosing active games. The goal is to help students feel successful during repeated fitness work while also beginning to connect PE class to healthy choices they can make beyond school.
Essential Questions
- How can I stay active and keep trying during a fitness circuit?
- What does my body do when I move for a longer time?
- What are some healthy activity habits I can do at school, at home, or during playtime?
- How can short station activities help me build endurance and stronger movement habits?
