Grade Level: 3
Subject Area: Music (Performing • Expression • Accuracy)
Total Unit Duration: 1–3 sessions (3+ weeks), 50–60 minutes per session
I. Introduction
In this unit, students prepare and perform favorite pieces from their grade-level repertoire, focusing on both technical accuracy (correct pitch, rhythm, entrances) and expression (dynamics, tempo, tone, facial and body energy). They learn how to choose a piece that fits their skills and interests, rehearse it thoughtfully, and then share it with classmates in a supportive setting. Throughout the unit, they reflect on what it means to perform with care, confidence, and emotion and how practice leads to growth.
Essential Questions
- What does it mean to perform music with both technical accuracy and expression?
- How do our personal favorites and interests influence the music we choose to perform?
- What rehearsal habits help us get ready to share music confidently with others?
- How does performing for an audience change the way we think and feel about music?
