Kindergarten Art: Students present artwork in a class exhibition, discuss which pieces stand out, and share short artist talks about how their art looks displayed.
Focus: Present artwork in an exhibition and talk about how it looks when displayed.
Grade Level: K
Subject Area: Art (Visual Arts • Presenting)
Total Unit Duration: 1–2 weeks, 30–45 minutes per session
I. Introduction
In this unit, kindergarten students will celebrate their work in an Exhibition Showcase. They view their own and classmates’ artworks hung on walls or boards and practice talking about how the artwork looks when displayed—which pieces stand out, how groups of art look together, and how it feels to see their art on the wall. Students act as both artists and viewers, giving short artist talks and noticing what they see first in the display. By the end of the unit, they can share a simple artist statement and say something about how the display makes the artwork look.
Essential Questions
- How does my artwork look when it is displayed on the wall?
- What do people notice first when they see our exhibition?
- How can I talk about my artwork and how it looks in the display?
- How does it feel to share my artwork with others in a showcase?
