Unit Plan 34 (Grade K Art): Final Artwork Selection
Kindergarten Art: Students choose a favorite artwork to share in a final exhibition and explain why the piece is meaningful or shows their best effort.
Focus: Choose artwork to share with others in a final exhibition or display.
Grade Level: K
Subject Area: Art (Visual Arts • Presenting)
Total Unit Duration: 1–2 weeks, 30–45 minutes per session
I. Introduction
In this unit, kindergarten students become art selectors by choosing which of their artworks they want to share in a final classroom or school exhibition. They think about pieces that show their best effort, a favorite memory, or something that feels special. Students learn that choosing art to share is part of being an artist, and that displays help others see their stories. By the end of the unit, they can pick at least one artwork and explain in simple words why they chose it for the final exhibition.
Essential Questions
- How do artists choose which artwork to share with others?
- What makes an artwork feel special or “ready” to show?
- How can I choose one picture that shows my best effort or a favorite story from my life?
- Why is it exciting and important to share art in an exhibition?
