I. Introduction

In this unit, kindergarten students learn how to use scissors and glue as real art tools, not toys. They practice how to hold scissors safely, how to cut slowly along simple lines, and how to use “just a dot, not a lot” of glue to attach paper pieces. Students discover that careful tool use helps their artwork stay neat and helps everyone stay safe. By the end of the unit, they can follow simple safety rules and complete a small cut-and-glue artwork using scissors and glue appropriately.

II. Objectives and Standards

Learning Objectives — Students will be able to:

1. Follow simple safety rules for using and carrying scissors in the art room.
2. Hold scissors correctly and cut along straight or gently curved lines with effort and care.
3. Use small amounts of glue (“just a dot”) to attach paper pieces without puddles or mess.
4. Create a simple cut-and-glue artwork using scissors and glue appropriately.
