Unit Plan 27 (Grade K ELA): Synthesizing Across Two Texts (Same Topic)
Kindergarten informational text unit: students compare two books on the same topic, identify what’s the same and different, ask and answer questions to clarify understanding, and create one short oral or written conclusion that connects both texts.

Focus: What’s the same/different; one oral/written conclusion
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Subject Area: English Language Arts (Informational Text • Speaking/Listening • Writing)
Total Unit Duration: 5 sessions (one week), 45–60 minutes per session
I. Introduction
This week, students become information detectives by reading and comparing two texts about the same topic. They will notice what’s the same and what’s different, then use their ideas to form one conclusion they can share in a short sentence or drawing with dictation. The week builds the foundation for informational comparison, evidence use, and verbal reasoning.
