Subject Area: Physical Education (Movement SequencesLocomotor SkillsSafe Space)

Total Unit Duration: 2 core sessions + 2 optional sessions (1–2 weeks), 20–30 minutes per session

I. Introduction

Students continue building early PE confidence by learning how to connect one movement to another in a simple sequence. In Kindergarten, obstacle courses are a strong way to help students practice moving in order, following pathways, and using both locomotor and non-locomotor actions in one activity. This unit uses light jogging and animal walks as a warm-up and then moves into a playful movement obstacle course where students may crawl, jump, run, balance, and stop at different points along the path. The goal is to help students practice sequencing movement skills while also learning how to travel safely in shared space.

Essential Questions

  • How can I move through an obstacle course safely?
  • What happens when I put different movements together in order?
  • How can I crawl, jump, and run with control?
  • How do I keep my body safe when other students are moving too?
