Unit Plan 10 (Grade K PE): Rolling Skills
Kindergarten students build rolling control through fun target games that teach safe hand position, low release, direction, and force while developing early object-control skills in PE.
Focus: Help students develop control when rolling objects by practicing safe hand position, direction, and force through fun target games.
Grade Level: K
Subject Area: Physical Education (Object Control • Rolling • Movement Control)
Total Unit Duration: 2 core sessions + 2 optional sessions (1–2 weeks), 20–30 minutes per session
I. Introduction
Students begin building early object-control confidence by learning how to roll a ball with control toward a target. In Kindergarten, rolling is an important beginning skill because it helps students understand direction, force, and body positioning in a simple and success-friendly way. This unit uses arm swings and rolling imaginary balls as a warm-up and then moves into a playful rolling game where students try to knock down pins. The goal is to help students learn that rolling works best when they aim carefully, stay low, and use gentle control instead of throwing hard.
