Build walking and running control in Kindergarten PE with pathway practice, Red Light Green Light, and simple stop-go games that teach safe movement and listening.
Focus: Help students develop walking and running control by practicing pathways, start/stop signals, and safe body control during simple movement games.
Grade Level: K
Subject Area: Physical Education (Locomotor Skills • Movement Control • Following Signals)
Total Unit Duration: 2 core sessions + 2 optional sessions (1–2 weeks), 20–30 minutes per session
I. Introduction
Students continue building Kindergarten PE routines by learning how to control their bodies while walking and running. In these lessons, students practice moving on clear pathways, slowing down, stopping safely, and responding quickly to teacher directions. Through walking pathways around cones and a playful Red Light, Green Light game, students begin understanding that movement is not just about going fast. It is also about listening, controlling speed, and stopping with balance. The goal is to help students move with more control and respond safely to simple signals.
Essential Questions
- How can I walk and run with control?
- How do I stop my body safely?
- What do I do when the teacher gives a signal?
