Unit Plan 25 (PreK Art): Mounting Art
Preschool art unit where children help mount artwork on backing paper, practice careful handling, and prepare pieces for classroom display.
Focus: Help prepare artwork for display by mounting and handling pieces with care alongside the teacher.
Grade Level: PreK
Subject Area: Art (Visual Arts • Presenting)
Total Unit Duration: 1–3 weeks, 20–30 minutes per session
I. Introduction
In this unit, preschool children learn how artists and teachers get artwork ready to share with others. They practice handling their pictures gently, placing them on background paper, and helping an adult tape or glue the edges so the artwork looks neat and ready for a gallery or bulletin board. Children learn that mounting art is part of treating their work with respect and pride. By the end of the unit, children will be able to help line up their artwork on a backing page and participate in simple steps to mount it for display.
