Unit Plan 16 (PreK Art): Sharing Circle

Focus: Share what you like about artwork using simple opinions.

Grade Level: PreK

Subject Area: Art (Visual Arts • Responding)

Total Unit Duration: 1–3 weeks, 20–30 minutes per session

I. Introduction

In this unit, preschool children practice looking at artwork and saying what they like about it in a friendly Sharing Circle. They learn to use simple opinion statements such as “I like the bright colors” or “I like the big dog,” and to point to parts of the artwork that match their words. Children also practice listening while friends share, taking turns, and keeping comments kind and positive. By the end of the unit, children understand that everyone can have different favorite parts of an artwork and that sharing opinions helps us enjoy art together.

Essential Questions

  • How can I tell someone what I like about a picture?
  • What kinds of things can I notice in artwork (colors, shapes, people, stories)?
  • How can I listen and take turns when we share about art in a circle?
