Grade Level: PreK

Subject Area: English Language Arts (Read-Aloud Comprehension • Speaking/Listening • Early Narrative)

I. Introduction

This week children learn to ask and answer story questions (who/what/where/when) and to retell a familiar story using picture clues. Through highly visual read-alouds, partner talk, and hands-on sequencing cards, learners practice noticing key details and sharing them in short, supported sentences.

II. Objectives and Standards

Learning Objectives — Students will be able to…

  1. Ask and answer simple who/what/where/when questions about a read-aloud with adult support (RL.PK.1).
  2. Retell a familiar story with beginning–middle–end ideas using picture cards or the book’s illustrations (RL.PK.2).
  3. Use illustrations to describe characters, setting, and major events (RL.PK.7).
  4. Confirm understanding of the story by responding to simple check-for-understanding prompts or asking a clarifying question (SL.PK.2).
