Unit Plan 10 (Grade PreK ELA): Launching Opinion Speaking
PreK opinion writing unit: students practice saying “I like ___ because ___” to express preferences with clear reasons, learning complete-sentence sharing, polite listening, and partner turn-taking to build confidence in early communication skills.

Total Unit Duration: 5 sessions (one week), 30–45 minutes per session (use two short blocks if needed)
I. Introduction
This week introduces opinions as friendly classroom shares. Children practice naming a preference (“I like…”) and adding a reason (“…because…”) while speaking in complete sentences. Partners learn to take turns, listen, and respond with polite talk moves (“I heard you say…”).
