Unit Plan 4 (PreK PE): Balance & Shapes
PreK PE unit helps children build balance, body control, and non-locomotor skills through playful freeze games, shape-making, stretching, and simple balance poses.
Focus: Help children explore non-locomotor movement and body control through playful balance poses, shape-making, and freeze games.
Grade Level: PreK
Subject Area: Physical Education (Non-Locomotor Skills • Balance • Body Control)
Total Unit Duration: 2 core sessions + 2 optional sessions (1–2 weeks), 20–30 minutes per session
I. Introduction
PreK students continue building movement confidence by learning that not all PE movement has to travel across the room. Some movement happens right where the body is standing, stretching, twisting, bending, and balancing in space. This unit uses stretch and balance poses as a warm-up and then moves into Freeze Balance, where children hold fun balance positions when music stops. The goal is to help children build body control, explore simple shapes and poses, and feel successful using balance in playful ways.
Essential Questions
- How can I move without traveling across the room?
- How can I make my body strong and still?
- What helps me balance safely?
