Unit Plan 8 (PreK PE): Obstacle Adventure
PreK PE unit helps children combine crawling, jumping, walking, balancing, and freezing in a playful obstacle adventure that builds movement sequencing, body control, and confidence through safe, success-friendly pathways.
Focus: Help children combine locomotor and non-locomotor skills through a playful obstacle adventure that includes crawling under, jumping over, walking around, and balancing through simple movement pathways.
Grade Level: PreK
Subject Area: Physical Education (Locomotor Skills • Non-Locomotor Skills • Movement Sequences)
Total Unit Duration: 2 core sessions + 2 optional sessions (1–2 weeks), 20–30 minutes per session
I. Introduction
PreK students continue building movement confidence by learning that their bodies can do many different kinds of actions in one playful sequence. In this unit, children move through a mini obstacle course that invites them to crawl under, jump over, walk around, balance, and freeze as they travel through an adventure path. This unit uses animal movement stretches as the warm-up and then moves into a fun Obstacle Adventure game where children complete a simple course with teacher-guided movement prompts. The goal is to help children connect locomotor and non-locomotor skills in a safe, success-friendly way while building confidence with movement challenges.
