Unit Plan 13 (PreK PE): Target Rolling
PreK PE builds rolling accuracy through fun target games, helping children use gentle force, aim at pins, and develop basic object-control skills safely.
Focus: Help children build accuracy with rolling through playful target games that strengthen gentle force, direction, and basic object control.
Grade Level: PreK
Subject Area: Physical Education (Object Control • Rolling Accuracy • Target Play)
Total Unit Duration: 2 core sessions + 2 optional sessions (1–2 weeks), 20–30 minutes per session
I. Introduction
PreK students continue building object-control confidence by learning that rolling can be used not only to send a ball to a partner, but also to aim at a target. At this age, children benefit from simple target games that use large objects, short distances, and repeated chances to try again. This unit uses rolling balls around cones as the warm-up and then moves into a fun target game where children roll balls to knock down foam pins. The goal is to help children explore rolling with more direction and accuracy while feeling successful, active, and safe with equipment.
