Grade Level: 1
Subject Area: Library (Sharing • Presentation • Response/Communication)
Total Unit Duration: 1–3 weeks, 50–60 minutes per session
I. Introduction
This unit helps Grade 1 students build confidence as speakers, listeners, and library community members. By this point in the year, students have practiced reading, listening, responding, creating, retelling, sorting, and discussing in many different ways. Now they are ready to share a simple book, project, drawing, retell, or idea with classmates in a structured and supportive format. The librarian can emphasize that sharing in library is not about giving a perfect presentation—it is about speaking clearly, showing understanding, listening respectfully, and valuing the ideas of others.
Essential Questions
- How can I share a book, project, or idea clearly with others?
- What does respectful listening look like when a classmate is sharing?
- How can a drawing, retell, or response project show what I understand?
- How do sharing and listening help our library community learn together?
