Total Unit Duration: 1–3 weeks, 50–60 minutes per session
I. Introduction
This unit helps Grade 1 students learn how to work together during structured library tasks. Students are developmentally ready to begin sorting and matching in more thoughtful ways, but they still need clear routines for sharing materials, listening to a partner, and making simple decisions as a team. Through book-sorting, picture matching, and category games, students practice noticing how books and materials can be grouped by topic, type, purpose, or feature. The unit builds both cooperation and early classification skills while helping students see that partner work can make library learning more organized and fun.
