Grade Level: 1
Subject Area: Physical Education (Object Control • Movement Concepts • Active Participation)
Total Unit Duration: 2 core sessions + 2 optional sessions (1–2 weeks), 20–30 minutes per session
I. Introduction
Students begin building stronger kicking skills by learning how to make contact with the ball, send it in a chosen direction, and control how hard it travels. In Grade 1 PE, kicking is an important early object-control skill because it helps students connect balance, foot placement, and aim. Through a simple foot taps and dribbling warm-up and a fun Goal Zone Kicks activity, students practice kicking toward large cone gates or wall targets while staying active and safe. The goal is to help students feel confident using their feet to control a ball and send it toward a target with growing success.
Essential Questions
- How can I kick a ball with more control?
- What helps a ball travel in the direction I want?
- How can I use the right amount of force for a target?
