Total Unit Duration: 2 core sessions + 2 optional sessions (1–2 weeks), 20–30 minutes per session
I. Introduction
Students build confidence and responsibility in PE when they learn how to use equipment safely and respectfully. In Grade 1, scooters can be exciting, but they also require strong listening, careful starts and stops, awareness of personal and general space, and consistent rule-following. This unit begins with a safety walk and talk so students understand scooter expectations before riding, then moves into a fun Scooter Highway game where students travel in lanes, respond to traffic-style cues, and practice control. The goal is to help students enjoy scooter movement while understanding that safety, space, and listening are part of the fun.
Essential Questions
- How can I use a scooter safely in PE?
- What does it mean to stay aware of personal and general space while riding?
- How do rules and traffic signals help scooter games work well?
