I. Introduction

Students strengthen their throwing skills when they use them in simple games instead of only isolated practice. In Grade 1 PE, throwing at a moving or protected target adds excitement while also helping students learn to aim, control force, and follow game rules carefully. This unit begins with a partner toss-and-catch warm-up and then moves into Pin Guard, where some students protect pins while others throw from behind a line. The goal is to help students experience throwing in a playful game with just enough challenge to build focus, effort, and self-control.

Essential Questions

  • How can I throw with better control and aim?
  • What changes when a target is being guarded?
  • How do game rules and safety routines help throwing games work well?
  • How can I stay calm and ready even when the game feels exciting?
