I. Introduction

Students begin learning that getting better at a skill often happens by trying, listening, adjusting, and trying again. In Grade 1 PE, this process needs to feel encouraging, simple, and fun. This unit uses a throwing-at-targets warm-up and playful Skill Re-Try Stations to help students practice object-control skills, hear one short coaching tip, and then use that feedback right away. The goal is to help students understand that mistakes are part of learning and that improvement happens when they keep trying with a positive attitude.

Essential Questions

  • How can I get better at a skill in PE?
  • What does it mean to try, improve, and repeat?
  • How can feedback help me do a skill in a better way?
  • What should I do when a skill feels hard the first time?

II. Objectives and Standards

Learning Objectives — Students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate developing object-control skills such as throwing, rolling, catching, kicking, or striking during station practice.
  2. Listen to short feedback from the teacher or a partner and make a simple adjustment.
  3. Show effort by trying a skill again after receiving feedback.
  4. Participate actively in re-try station games with a positive attitude toward improvement.
