Unit Plan 27 (Grade 3 Library): Responsible Use of Materials and Technology
Build Grade 3 library responsibility with lessons on book care, device use, routines, shared spaces, and independent habits that support the whole class.
Focus: Help students strengthen independence and accountability when using books, materials, devices, headphones, and shared workspaces in library. Students practice safe, responsible, and respectful habits that support both digital responsibility and community care in age-appropriate ways.
Grade Level: 3
Subject Area: Library (Responsibility • Technology Use • Shared Spaces)
Total Unit Duration: 1–3 weeks, 50–60 minutes per session
I. Introduction
This unit helps Grade 3 students revisit library responsibility with a stronger emphasis on independence. At this point in the year, students are often using a wider range of tools, including books, headphones, devices, search tools, center materials, and shared workspaces. The librarian helps students understand that responsible library behavior is not only about following rules, but also about caring for a shared learning community. Through modeling, practice, discussion, and reflection, students strengthen habits such as handling tools correctly, following routines with less prompting, and leaving shared spaces ready for the next group.
Essential Questions
