I. Introduction

This unit helps Grade 4 students recognize that independence in library is built through consistent, responsible habits. By this point in the year, many students are ready to begin work quickly, manage transitions, use books and tools carefully, and complete familiar routines without relying on constant reminders. Through modeled expectations, structured independent work time, and reflection, students learn that independence is not just working alone. It also means making safe, respectful choices that help the whole library run smoothly. The goal is to help students see themselves as capable, trustworthy library users who can manage their learning with increasing confidence.
