I. Introduction
This PreK library unit focuses on how children participate during storytime. At this age, listening is active: children look at pictures, notice details, join repeated phrases, make sound effects, predict what might happen, and share simple ideas when invited. The librarian uses highly interactive read-alouds with rhythm, repetition, strong illustrations, and clear participation moments so children experience storytime as joyful, social, and meaningful.
The unit also builds respectful library habits. Children practice sitting in the story area, looking at the book or speaker, listening until a stopping point, responding when prompted, and sharing one thing they noticed or liked. The goal is not silent compliance, but guided participation that helps children enjoy books together while learning how shared listening works in the library community.
