Unit Plan 32 (PreK Library): Looking Back at What We Learned
PreK library review unit where children revisit favorite books, topics, routines, sorting tasks, and sharing skills while celebrating growth.
Focus: Help PreK children revisit favorite stories, topics, routines, tools, and library skills from earlier in the year so they can recognize growth as library learners. Children share observations and ideas, sort or organize familiar books and materials, and participate respectfully in reading, listening, viewing, and sharing experiences.
Grade Level: PreK
Subject Area: Library (Review • Reflection • Library Growth)
Total Unit Duration: 1–3 weeks, 20–30 minutes per session
I. Introduction
This PreK library unit helps children look back at what they have learned across the year. The librarian displays familiar books, topic baskets, puppets, picture cards, sorting materials, audio tools, and routine visuals from previous units so children can remember the many ways they have listened, chosen, wondered, sorted, shared, retold, created, and cared for library materials.
The unit functions as both review and celebration. Children may revisit a favorite read-aloud, show how to choose a book, sort books into simple baskets, retell a familiar story with puppets, share something they remember from a topic book, or demonstrate respectful participation during group sharing. The goal is to help children notice that they have grown as library learners and can use many familiar skills with increasing confidence.
