I. Introduction
This PreK library unit teaches children how to learn alongside others in a shared space. At this age, children are still developing the ability to wait, take turns, share materials, listen to a partner, and use group tools kindly. The librarian can use simple centers, puppet activities, felt-board pieces, retelling baskets, picture cards, or shared book baskets to help children practice these skills in concrete ways.
The unit should feel playful, social, and highly supported. Children may share one retelling basket with a partner, rotate through a puppet station, pass materials around the circle, or practice waiting for a turn during a story response. The goal is to help children understand that library learning is more enjoyable when everyone has space, everyone gets a turn, and everyone helps take care of shared materials.
