Total Unit Duration: 1–2 weeks, 30 minutes per session

I. Introduction

This Grade 2 counseling lesson helps students understand that belonging is something a classroom builds together. Students learn that their words, actions, and choices can help classmates feel safe, included, and valued. The counselor emphasizes that every student matters in the classroom community and that small choices, such as inviting someone to join, listening to an idea, or using caring words, can make a big difference.

Students participate in a class web, puzzle, or belonging chain activity to show how everyone is connected. They discuss common Grade 2 situations from recess, group work, lunch, partner activities, and classroom routines where students can help others feel included. The goal is for students to recognize that kindness, empathy, and respectful listening are practical ways to help classmates feel like they belong.
