I. Introduction

This Grade 5 counseling lesson helps students understand that strong problem-solvers think beyond the moment. When students feel angry, embarrassed, pressured, or frustrated, they may want to react quickly. This lesson teaches them to pause, calm down, name the problem, consider choices, predict consequences, choose a safe solution, and reflect on what happened.

Students practice applying problem-solving steps to realistic situations such as group project conflict, friendship tension, recess disagreements, peer pressure, rumors, or digital communication. The counselor emphasizes that choices can affect not only the student making the choice, but also classmates, friendships, trust, safety, and the larger school community.
