I. Introduction

This Kindergarten counseling lesson helps students recognize that every person has strengths, interests, preferences, and things they are still learning. Students practice naming simple things they like, things they are good at, and things they are learning to do at school, at home, or with friends.

The counselor uses picture cards, sentence frames, drawing, partner sharing, or a classroom community chart to show that each student brings something special to the group. Students learn that different strengths and interests help make the classroom community stronger. The goal is for students to build early self-awareness while also understanding that they belong in the class.
