Total Unit Duration: 1–3 weeks, 50–60 minutes per session
I. Introduction
This unit helps Kindergarten students understand that the library is a place where they can learn about the real world. The librarian selects a concrete, high-interest topic such as seasons, ocean animals, plants, community jobs, weather, insects, or habitats and shares multiple books, photographs, read-aloud excerpts, and visuals connected to that theme. Students listen, observe, talk, sort, match, draw, and ask simple questions as they begin building early informational literacy. The emphasis is on curiosity, careful looking, respectful listening, and noticing that books and library tools can help us learn about people, places, nature, jobs, and the wider world.
Essential Questions

- What can I learn from pictures, read-alouds, and class conversations?
