Total Unit Duration: 1–3 weeks, 50–60 minutes per session
I. Introduction
This early-year Kindergarten library unit helps students learn how to care for books as shared materials. Young children often need repeated, concrete practice with carrying books, turning pages, using baskets or shelves, and returning books to the right location. The librarian can model both helpful and unhelpful book-care behaviors in exaggerated ways so students can identify which choices are safe, respectful, and responsible. The goal is to help students understand that book care is not just a rule; it is a way to help everyone enjoy the library.
