I. Introduction

This unit helps Kindergarten students learn what it means to work with a partner in the library. At this age, students often need explicit modeling for how to sit near a partner, share one set of materials, wait for a turn, listen to another idea, and complete a task together. The librarian keeps partner work brief, playful, and highly structured so students can practice cooperation without becoming overwhelmed. Through sorting books, matching picture cards, completing a simple book-cover hunt, or sharing responses after a story, students begin learning that partner work means both people contribute and both people belong.

Essential Questions

  • How can I work with a partner during library learning?
  • What does it look like to take turns and share materials?
  • How can I listen respectfully when my partner has an idea?
